This year’s GACF workshop will bring together community forestry leaders from Nepal, Thailand, Cambodia, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, India and Lao PDR to review the situation of community forestry rights in these countries and discuss what modality will further strengten forest associations in the region. Participants will also draft a strategy to move local community and indigenous peoples rights forward into the next  decade.The workshop is also a prelude to the upcoming World Forestry Congress in September in Durban, South Africa.

The workshop is co-organized by RECOFTC – The Center for People and Forests, NTFP-EP and Forest and Farm Facility.

The Global Alliance of Community Forestry (GACF), established in 2004, is a network of community forestry based organizations formalized with the aim of creating a common ground to meet the necessities, interest and expectations of forest right holders.

Workshop objectives:

  • Review, reflect and share the learning and experience among the participants on securing community forestry rights and strengthening forest right holders association and networks.
  • Develop a declaration statement to be shared in national, regional and global fora such as the World Forestry Congress.
  • Review and reflect on previous achievements and draft a strategy to strengthen institutional capacity of community forestry networks and leadership in the region.
