Search Engine Structure and User Tips
Back to NTFP Database

The NTFP Product Database may be searched in several ways.

  • You can search using any of the following, or combination of the following:
    • Common Name
    • Scientific Name
    • Family Name
    • NTFP Classification
    • Countries Found
  • Clicking the column headers for either Common Name, Scientific Name, or Family automatically sorts that column alphabetically (or reverse alphabetically, if you click again). The "Parts Used" column is non-sortable because there are multiple entries.
  • All searches are Boolean AND. That means that only entries which match all the information you supply in your search will be successfully retrieved. Thus, the best strategy is to supply only what information is absolutely needed for your search; e.g., a Common Name, an NTFP classification, and a country (see below). You can always narrow the search down later if you get too many hits.
  • Searches are case insensitive.
  • Searches will match partial entry information, e.g., "palm" in the Common Name search field will return results with "palm" so entering a complete title or a full name is not necessary. However, partial keywords or information will sometimes slow the search engine's speed for returning results.
