Nomad RS I together with WWF and NTFP-EP has launched the initiative on “Food from the Forest” in order to collect Bunong knowledge of wild foods and to build up a community project to recognise the value of Bunong culinary arts and associated practices. Several field trips have been conducted. Various plant specimens were collected to prepare herbarium vouchers and to be able to identify the species. As a second step, key persons in the community, mainly in Dak Dam commune, were interviewed to collect their food recipes.

This booklet depicts the main results of the initiative in the Bunong community of Dak Dam. The culinary art is described showing the extensive use of wild plants, their preparation for cooking and illustrations of the traditional Bunong dishes. It includes some traditional remedies that are used to care for pregnant women and in childbirth by traditional healers from the commune. These remedies, kindly shared with us, are widely appreciated by women. Finally, well-illustrated monographs of the plants and their uses for food and medicine provide a depository of practical details on the plants and their uses by the community.
