What is Customary Forest Tenure and Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC)?

Customary Forest Tenure is a set of rules that govern and regulate community allocation, use, access, and transfer of natural resources. But why is it important for Indigenous peoples? How can Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) support Customary Tenure recognition?

This animated explainer video was developed from the various regional dialogues, consultations, discussions, and country research together with ASEAN member states representatives from the ASEAN Working Group on Social Forestry, the ASEAN Secretariat, relevant government agencies working in the forestry and land sector, civil society organizations and network, Indigenous peoples, and local communities on the link between Customary Tenure recognition and FPIC.

The video was produced with support from the Mekong Region Land Governance project and the Green Livelihoods Alliance.
