Research Assistant for Community-based Conservation
NTFP-EP Asia is an association of 30 members with over 100 partner non-governmental organizations and community-based organizations working with forest-based communities to strengthen their capacity in the sustainable management of natural resources in Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam.
The Research Assistant role is open to Philippine-based applicants only. The position is part-time and may be conducted remotely, with occasional field visits as required. The duty station is NTFP-EP Asia, Quezon City, but applicants based outside Metro Manila are also welcome to apply. The role reports directly to the Program Officer for Community-Based Conservation. It will run from 15 July to 15 December 2025, under a service contract arrangement.The position requires a part-time commitment, with a mutually agreed schedule based on project milestones and field requirements.

Bachelor’s degree preferably in Environmental Science, Ethnobotany, Anthropology, Forestry, or related discipline.
Experience in qualitative research, participatory tools, and documentation of Indigenous or traditional knowledge.
Strong research, writing, and data organization skills.
Familiarity with data ethics, FPIC, and TK documentation protocols.
Familiarity with NTFP or biodiversity conservation work is an asset.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Each Employee’s duties and responsibilities contribute towards the attainment of the Vision, Mission, and Goals of NTFP-EP. This includes providing proactive support and working in cooperation with partners, including those from the marginalized sectors – indigenous peoples and local communities including women and youth – in the different country networks and in various capacities.
The Research Assistant will provide technical and documentation support for the “Documentation of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) and Their Uses in South and Southeast Asia” project. Responsibilities include:
Assisting in the design and refine documentation tools and templates aligned with Indigenous protocols and community-based approaches.
Assisting in providing technical guidance to country teams on data collection (e.g., PRA, interviews, FGDs).
Assisting in the consolidation and systematization of data into a regional NTFP knowledge base.
Coordinating translation and contributing visual design inputs for knowledge products
Lead in data entry, literature review, and data cleaning.
Support formatting and preparation of NTFP database and compendium.
Documenting of workshop proceedings and interviews.
