Communication and Knowledge Management Officer

NTFP-EP Asia is a membership network with over 100 partner non-governmental organizations and community-based organizations working with forest-based communities to strengthen their capacity in the sustainable management of natural resources in Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

The Position: This is a full-time position with a maximum six-month probation. Salary range is Php 40,000 to Php 55,000 gross per month commensurate to qualifications, with basic benefits.

Reports to: Executive Director, NTFP-EP Asia

Work Station: NTFP-EP Asia Quezon City office with occasional domestic and international travels. NTFP-EP operates on a compressed work week from Mondays to Thursdays.

Qualifications

  1. A university degree in Communications or any related field;
  2. At least three years work experience on communications, journalism, public/media relations, or other related field;
  3. Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  4. Strong interpersonal skills, able to work in a multicultural environment and a team player;
  5. Good computer skills, particularly with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office365 programs;
  6. Able to conceptualize and produce communication materials in print, digital, and video;
  7. Advanced proficiency in English, written and verbal;
  8. A self-starter and deadline-driven;
  9. Willing to travel and flexible;
  10. Knowledge of and interest on issues related to natural resource management, indigenous peoples’ rights are an advantage

ANNEX A – JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Communication and Knowledge Management (CKM) Officer
REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Executive Director (ED)
COORDINATES WITH: NTFP-EP Asia Staff, NTFP-EP country facilitators and staff, partners, consultants

Duties and Responsibilities

Each Employee’s duties and responsibilities contribute towards the attainment of the Vision, Mission, and Goals of NTFP-EP. This includes providing proactive support and working in cooperation with partners, including those from the marginalized sectors – indigenous peoples and local communities including women and youth – in the different country networks and in various capacities.

Job Summary

The CKMO ensures that the communication objectives of the organization and the strategy and plans are achieved.  These objectives are namely to:

  1. build awareness and understanding about NTFPs and sustainable use and the role/s and contribution of indigenous and local communities to resilient and healthy forests in the region ;
  2. amplify community voices and stories;
  3. advocate for policy change and action;
  4. strengthen and support NTFP-EP networks and  partnerships; and
  5. increase engagement and support of all NTFP-EP targets.

The CKMO will tap all of its communications channels, assets and audiences.  He/she will work closely with the Executive Director, thematic and project leads, and the P/MEL (Programme/Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning) Coordinator to support the projects’ communications and knowledge management activities as well as the MEL activities.

Following an agreed annual workplan, the CKMO:

  1. Identifies, develops and executes the strategic visibility, and consistent and effective organizational branding and messaging of NTFP-EP across all thematic programs, audience, media, and collateral according to the organization’s strategy, objectives and plan.
  2. Manages the organization’s social media communications.
  3. Writes, edits and distributes various types of content, including regular material for NTFP-EP website, social media, press releases, and other types of content that take the message to the public, its members, partners and various targets. The CKMO coordinates with staff on the various activities that could be the subject of new content.
  4. Arranges interviews, compile analytics and metrics, and keeps a narrative/tracker of social media/general media coverage.
  5. Responsible for producing, publishing and coordinating content of the NTFP-EP Asia Annual Report and the internal newsletters (Voices from the Forest and the e-newsletter) for the organization
  6. Coordinates with Program Officers and other staff for the communication support needed in various program activities, (eg. workshop materials and other collateral);
  7. Supervises the distribution and monitoring of information materials, publications, etc. to NTFP-EP Asia partners, major contacts and other interested parties in coordination with the NTFP-EP Asia Administrative Officer; As such, manages the NTFP-EP Asia e-group and mailing list for circulation of news and other relevant updates to NTFP-EP’s key communication targets; Handles any information requests and queries posed to the NTFP-EP Asia email.
  8. Manages the HIVE e-learning platform of NTFP-EP Asia through the curation of various content and monitoring of use;
  9. Generates content on NTFP-EP’s web and electronic platforms including the EXCEED (Expanding Community Enterprises and Economic Development) and other microsites, and ensures other related social networking platforms are updated on a regular basis.
  10. Coordinates the updating and management of the NTFP databases with concerned staff, partners, interns, and volunteers
  11. Prepares and manage the organization’s annual communication budget.
  12. Maintains a database of media organizations and contacts within them.
  13. Develops and maintains working relationships with journalists in multiple types of media outlets; regularly meets with and conduct interviews with media personnel.
  14. Coordinates the production/replication/adaptation of videos depending on demand and budgets
  15. Supervises the management of the small NTFP-EP Asia library in coordination with the NTFP-EP Asia Administrative Officer
  16. Facilitates and works with communications counterparts in each country, ensuring their participation and increasing their capacity and efficiency in communicating the NTFP-EP message to various target groups.
  17. Manages consultants, interns, and volunteers associated with communications projects.
  18. Supervises support staff and intern/s who may be involved in communications and knowledge management work;
  19. Performs other tasks related to his job designation as may be assigned by his supervisor from time to time, including any requested support to NTFP-EP Country Offices
