NTFP-EP in the Philippines is a collaborative network of NGOs and peoples’ organizations working to strengthen, develop, and promote NTFP-based forest management strategies that are sustainable, culturally-appropriate and gender responsive, for future generations.
With this, NTFP-EP Philippines envisions empowered indigenous peoples and local communities inclusively governing forest landscapes to contribute to biodiversity conservation and protection, and climate change adaptation and mitigation. Our work revolves around four main themes: tenure and governance, community-based conservation and resource management, community-based livelihoods and enterprise development, and safeguarding culture.
Then called the Non-Timber Forest Products-Task Force (NTFP-TF), we started in 1998 as an offshoot of a conference entitled “Exploring Commercially Viable Community-based NTFP Enterprises – A Mechanism for Sustainable Resource Management,” that evolved into a country office providing the livelihood needs of forest dependent communities on NTFP development in the context of sustainable tropical forest management.
Today, we continue to responding to the emerging needs of communities and assisting organizations working on non-timber forest products (NTFP) development in the Philippines. Works with more than 50 community based NTFP enterprises in 12 provinces in the Southern Sierra Madre, Aklan and Negros Island Region, Mindoro, Palawan, and Northern Mindanao landscapes.
